Federal Designation Helps Support Meaningful Change
Work of Wisconsin Partnership Recognized by HHS

A partnership including the Business Health Care Group is gaining recognition from the federal government for driving meaningful change in the health care system. The Wisconsin Healthcare Value Exchange (WHVE) was recently designated one of 14 Chartered Value Exchanges (CVE) nationwide by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

The CVEs are recognized for bringing together purchasers, health plans, providers and consumers to advance what HHS calls the four cornerstones of value-driven health care:

  1. Health information technology
  2. Quality information
  3. Pricing information
  4. Quality and efficiency of care

Together with our partners in the WHVE, we’re promoting a high-quality, patient-centered, cost-effective health care system in Wisconsin. Other members include the Employer Healthcare Alliance Cooperative; MetaStar, Inc.; Wisconsin Health Information Organization; Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality; Wisconsin Hospital Association; and Wisconsin Medical Society.

Greater Access to Quality Information

The CVE designation will help us add to our growing arsenal of transparency tools. As a CVE, the Wisconsin Healthcare Value Exchange will receive access to Medicare provider performance information. We’ll also be part of a nationwide learning network that provides peer-to-peer learning experiences and access to experts and tools, including an ongoing, private Web-based knowledge management system.

Over the past year, HHS has designated more than 100 Community Leaders of value-driven care, including the BHCG. Community Leaders were given first eligibility in applying for CVE status. Thirty-eight applicants went through a rigorous peer-to-peer review process, resulting in the naming of 14 collaboratives in 12 states.

“These pioneers are at the forefront of a nationwide movement to transform our current health care sector into a patient-focused marketplace,” said HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt. “Together we are building the foundation of a transparent system that empowers consumers to seek high-quality health care at competitive prices.”
