From its inception, the BHCG has embraced the strategy that a key to reducing health care costs is encouraging employees to take an active role in their own health. Employees engaged in their health care make more informed decisions, leading to better health and reduced costs.

Humana’s Momentum Program is designed specifically to help BHCG employers engage their employees in their own health and reward them for healthier behaviors. In turn, employers are eligible for discounts off their medical rate at renewal.

Humana Momentum – exclusive to the BHCG in southeast Wisconsin
Effective with renewals or new groups on or after March 1, 2009, Humana Momentum is available exclusively to all fully insured BHCG employer groups with two or more eligible employees.

“We are pleased Humana is offering the Momentum program exclusively to BHCG member groups. It offers attractive incentives to encourage employees to make better informed health decisions which leads to increased wellness. Humana Momentum then goes even further by rewarding employers with rate credits for encouraging their employees to take steps to improve their health,” said Dianne Kiehl, the BHCG’s executive director. “It’s a win-win for employers and their employees,” added Kiehl.

Employee rewards and employer rate credits
As part of Humana Momentum, employers will have access to Humana Rewards(SM), an incentive program in which employees can earn points redeemable for gift cards and merchandise. Points are awarded as employees complete activities such as health assessments, health coaching and preventive care.

When employees get the assistance they need and adopt behaviors leading to better health, they earn points through Humana Rewards. Through the MyHumana personalized portal, employees can track their progress toward earning rewards and learn about additional wellness resources available to them. If certain reward levels are attained, employers can receive up to a 2 percent discount off their medical rate and a 3 percent discount off their dental rate at renewal.

Healthy employees – a benefit to all
Even small, sustained changes to an employee’s lifestyle can result in substantial enhancements to their health. By encouraging employees to take an active role in their own health and promoting health and wellness, employers can positively impact their employees’ health, disability and workers’ compensation claims, absenteeism and health care costs.
